Matt Wieters' name is everywhere in the world of prospects and fantasy geeks. He'll be mainstream soon enough. Probably later this season.
On a wind-swept Saturday at mostly vacant Coca-Cola Field, it was easy to see why the 22-year-old Norfolk Tides catcher is widely tabbed as baseball's top prospect.
Wieters went 2 for 4, scored twice and cracked a two-run double that broke the game open as the Tides beat the Buffalo Bisons, 5-1, to snap the Herd's two-game winning streak.

Ballantyne pitched shutout ball over the final three innings, including the fifth, when Waterville put runners on second and third.
Monmouth 14-10, Lincoln 2-2: Tyler Cobb bashed two home runs in game two as Monmouth swept the doubleheader in Boothbay Harbor.

"They are a good team and we are a good-hitting team and I kind of expected a high-scoring game," Frackville coach John Chuma said. "I didn't think it was going to be that high."

Chris Rahl knew his professional baseball career was in trouble after the 2008 season.
The Great Bridge graduate had just finished a campaign in which he had hit .216 with a paltry 25 RBIs for the Arizona Diamondbacks' Double-A team in Mobile (Ala.). Invited to Arizona's major league camp before the '08 season, he wouldn't even be headed to Triple-A in 2009.

Through his agent, Rahl connected with Kevin Seitzer, who hit .295 during a 12-year major league career. Currently the Kansas City Royals' hitting coach, Seitzer spent part of the '07 season as Arizona's hitting instructor.

In addition to changing his approach, Rahl said the biggest reason for his success is that he feels more relaxed this season. "I think it's going to be uncomfortable for him for a while," the manager added. "Baseball is a great place to go and try to bury yourself, basically, as far as concentration and trying not to be distracted. But I think it's going to be a little time before he gets his legs under him."
Torre said he's not sure if Ramirez will play in all three games of this series.
